# How factoring reps find new carriers after Motus

> Factoring reps find new carriers the day their operating authority goes active, when the first loads pay in 30 to 60 days and fuel is due now. FMCSA grants authority to about 237 for-hire carriers every business day. The reps who sign them work a fresh list each morning, skip returning carriers, and call before the carrier settles on a factor.

## Why new authorities are the factoring market

A carrier with a fresh [MC number](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/mc-number) has no payment history with brokers, waits 30 to 60 days for its first invoices to pay, and buys fuel daily. That cash gap is what factoring fills, and it's widest in the first weeks of authority.

97.9% of carriers granted authority in the last 30 days were first-time authorities, and 67% started with a single truck. Most of them haven't picked a factor yet.

## What changed when FMCSA moved to Motus

On May 14, 2026 FMCSA moved registration to its [Motus](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/motus) system and retired the legacy L&I registration functions. Lists and spreadsheets built on the old L&I feeds stopped updating, which is why many reps lost their usual source of new carriers. FMCSA still grants new authorities every business day; finding them now takes a list that tracks Motus. See [the FMCSA new authority list after Motus](https://rookiefeed.com/fmcsa-new-authority-list).

## Which new carriers still need a factor

- First-time authorities: no earlier active authority on the docket, so no existing factoring relationship from a previous run.
- One to five trucks: big enough to need cash flow, small enough that the owner makes the call.
- Carriers in your states: the ones your team can verify and serve.
- Carriers with insurance on file: the authority is active and loads can move now.

## A morning routine that works

- Get the list before 8am, filtered to your states, first-time authorities and one to five trucks.
- Call by hand. Autodialed calls and texts to cell numbers need prior written consent under the TCPA, so the cell flag on each row matters.
- Lead with something specific to the carrier: their equipment, their insurer, how long their application took.
- Follow up by email the same day. Most new carriers get many calls in their first week; a clear email is easier to answer later.
- Track who you reached so tomorrow's list only adds new names.

## Where the volume is

Texas, California, Florida had the most new carriers over the last 30 days. Every state's numbers, cities and insurers are on the [state pages](https://rookiefeed.com/new-trucking-companies).

The median first-time carrier waited 25 days from application to active authority (September 20, 2026 to October 19, 2026), so new applications are an early signal of who's coming. More on the [stats page](https://rookiefeed.com/new-trucking-authority-stats).

## Getting the list every morning

Rookiefeed sends every carrier FMCSA granted authority the day before, by 7am Central, with officer names, phone (cells flagged), email, fleet size, equipment, insurer and a first-time flag. Rookiefeed is $59 a month for one state once a week, $149 for one state every day, $299 for up to 8 states and $599 for every state, and you can cancel any time.

## Questions

### Where do factoring companies get new carrier leads?

Usually through a daily list of carriers FMCSA just granted operating authority, with the owner's contact details, fleet size and insurance on each row. Since May 2026 those grants happen in FMCSA's Motus system rather than the old L&I register, so lists built on L&I went quiet.

### Should I call carriers that had authority before?

Returning authorities are more likely to have a factor already from their earlier run. Start with first-time authorities and work returning carriers second.

### Can I text new carriers?

Marketing texts to cell numbers, and autodialed or prerecorded calls, need prior express written consent under the TCPA, even for business owners. Manual calls and CAN-SPAM-compliant email are the usual first touch.
