# The FMCSA new authority list, after Motus

> FMCSA still grants new operating authority every business day, but the old daily list is gone. On May 14, 2026 it retired its legacy registration functions and moved registration to Motus, and the Daily Register page now says it will be deleted. To see this morning's grants by state, with names and MC numbers, go to [new MC numbers today](https://rookiefeed.com/new-mc-numbers).

## What happened to the Daily Register

FMCSA's "Daily FMCSA Registration Decisions, Letters, Certificates, Permits, and Licenses" page used to be where people read each day's decisions. It now says the page "will be deleted" as [Motus](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/motus) gains full functionality.

FMCSA's notices say its legacy registration functions, including new applications in URS and filings through the old Licensing and Insurance system, were permanently retired on May 14, 2026 at 8pm ET.

Dispatchers noticed right away. Comments under popular "find carriers on the FMCSA website" videos from mid-2026 say the Register dropdown is gone and the old method no longer works.

## What replaced it

Motus is now where carriers register, apply for authority, and keep their filings up to date. It's built for a carrier managing its own account, not for anyone who wants a daily list of who just got authority. There is no replacement for the Daily Register as a morning list of new grants. More on the system itself in [what changed with Motus](https://rookiefeed.com/guides/fmcsa-motus-explained).

## Why a new USDOT number list isn't the same thing

One dispatcher put the gap plainly in mid-2026: the daily list they could find in Motus showed new USDOT registrations from companies that didn't have their MC yet, not newly authorized carriers. That's a real difference. A [USDOT number](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/usdot-number) is safety registration. Operating authority is what lets a [for-hire carrier](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/for-hire-carrier) haul regulated freight across state lines, and it only goes active once insurance and [BOC-3](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/boc-3) filings are on record.

In our last 30 days of data, 8,044 carriers filed new authority applications and 5,591 were granted. If you sell to carriers that can haul now, you want the grants. More on the difference in [MC number vs DOT number](https://rookiefeed.com/guides/mc-number-vs-dot-number).

## If your old method stopped working

- Lists, spreadsheets and paid tools that pulled from the L&I Register or the Daily Register stopped getting new decisions at the cutover. One insurance agency on Reddit said its usual carrier data tool had been out of date for a week by late May 2026.
- Status lookups of brand-new numbers can come back empty or disagree with Motus while FMCSA works through the transition. Motus is the record of truth for a carrier's current status.
- New USDOT and docket numbers issued in Motus are randomized, so you can't find new carriers by searching the next numbers in sequence anymore.
- Each authority granted in Motus gets its own docket number, so one carrier can show up under more than one MC.

## How many new authorities FMCSA grants

FMCSA granted for-hire [operating authority](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/operating-authority) to 5,591 trucking companies in the 30 days ending October 19, 2026, about 237 per business day. Another 8,044 carriers filed new applications in the same window, and 375 freight brokers were granted authority.

Across the 5,409 first-time carriers FMCSA granted authority to between September 20, 2026 and October 19, 2026, the median time from application to active authority was 25 calendar days. Half took between 16 and 41 days, and 90% were active within 70 days. Authority can't go active until the carrier's insurance ([BMC-91](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/bmc-91)/91X) and [process agent](https://rookiefeed.com/glossary/process-agent) (BOC-3) filings are on record, so a slow filing stretches the wait. Live numbers are on the [new trucking authority stats](https://rookiefeed.com/new-trucking-authority-stats) page and the [state pages](https://rookiefeed.com/new-trucking-companies).

## What a usable new-authority list needs

A grant on its own isn't a list you can call from. Here's what a sales team needs on each row:

| What you need | Why it matters | Rookiefeed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| One row per new carrier | One carrier can hold several dockets, and status changes repeat | One row per new carrier |
| Only real new grants | Reinstatements, broker and forwarder authority look similar at a glance | For-hire carrier grants, with brokers and new applications as optional filters |
| Owner contact | A new carrier's contact details can lag the grant by a few days | Officer names, phone, cell flagged, email (about 99% of rows), re-checked for 7 days |
| Insurance | Agents need the insurer and coverage to quote | Insurer, BIPD coverage and effective date on the row |
| First-time or returning | Returning carriers often already have a factor and an agent | Flagged, so you can skip them |
| Delivery | The first caller usually wins | Email with a CSV by 7am Central, plus a dashboard |

## Getting yesterday's grants as a list

## Questions

### Does the FMCSA Daily Register still exist?

Not in its old form. FMCSA's Daily Register page says it will be deleted as Motus reaches full functionality. Legacy registration functions, including filings through L&I, were retired on May 14, 2026.

### Can carriers still file through L&I?

No. Filings and applications through the old Licensing and Insurance system were retired on May 14, 2026. Carriers, insurers and process agents now file in Motus.

### How do I see new MC authority grants now?

There's no FMCSA page that lists them each morning anymore. Rookiefeed shows each day's grants by state on [new MC numbers today](https://rookiefeed.com/new-mc-numbers), and subscribers get every new carrier with contacts by 7am Central.
